Top 3 Suppressors to Start Your Collection: Expert Recommendations for New Buyers

Avatar admin | June 8, 2024

Today we’re I’d like to make suggestions on what your first three suppressors should be. Now, of course, this is subjective based on my own experience and opinions, but I’m getting the question a lot as to, “Well Rob, what do you recommend in that case?” Because we’re seeing how many suppressors I have and how much experience I have, so people default to, “Well, pick for me.” The truth is, I can’t pick for you. A car salesman can recommend a car based on your needs, but you have to tell him what your needs are. Are you a long-range hunter? Do you have an AR-15? Are you into shooting .22? Let’s break down the three categories and what I recommend as a do-all for anybody.

Bolt Action or Hunting Rifle Suppressor

For your bolt action and hunting rifle setup, you want a lightweight suppressor that you’re not going to feel at the end of an already very long rifle, and you’re not so worried about back pressure. Which suppressor is right for you is dictated by what calibers you typically shoot. Here are my top three recommendations:

  1. Nomad LTi
    • Extremely quiet, one of the quietest suppressors I own.
    • Handles almost any .30 caliber bullet with almost no barrel length restrictions.
    • Perfect for 20+ inch barrels.
  2. SilencerCo 36M
    • Modular suppressor, best on long-range platforms, particularly .338 Lapua Magnums.
    • Allows you to change out a lot of pieces to suit your needs.
  3. SilencerCo Scythe
    • Rated up to 300 Norma Magnum, no barrel length restrictions.
    • Extremely light and relatively quiet for its size.

AR-15 Suppressor

The AR-15 is America’s sweetheart, so you should have an AR-specific suppressor. Here are my top picks right now for the AR-15:

  1. Huxwrx QD
    • Quiet enough for range use with hearing protection, almost no back pressure.
    • Reliable and easy to maintain.
  2. Huxwrx Ventum
    • Offers reduced back pressure and the flexibility of a hub system.
    • The 7.62 version is available, with a 5.56 coming soon.
  3. B&T RDBS
    • Reduced back pressure, very light, and includes a hub system.
    • No barrel length restrictions, making it versatile for different rifles.

.22 Suppressor

While you can put .22 ammunition through several other suppressors, it’s best to have dedicated .22 suppressors. Here are my three current favorites:

  1. MG 22
    • Modular length, easy to clean, backed by a strong warranty.
    • Encourages users to test its durability and reliability.
  2. SilencerCo Switchback
    • Modular, lightweight, and incredibly quiet.
    • Perfect for those who prioritize weight and modularity.
  3. SilencerCo Sparrow
    • Known for being extremely quiet and very durable.
    • Can handle up to 5.7 by 28, but can be a bit challenging to clean.

By considering these categories and recommendations, you can start your suppressor collection with confidence. Each of these suppressors has been selected based on their performance, reliability, and suitability for different types of firearms and shooting needs.
