Hey everyone, Rob Orgel here at CANCON 2024. Introducing Travis Kennedy

Travis Kennedy, a former SEAL and law enforcement officer, transitioned from the operational side to becoming a full-time firearms instructor. In 2019, after leaving the service, he founded Kennedy Defensive Solutions out of a genuine passion for firearms and teaching.

From Operator to Instructor

Travis shared his journey from being an operator to an instructor, highlighting how his time as a BUD/S instructor for the SEAL teams ignited his passion for teaching. Initially, he wasn’t interested in instructing, but seeing the results of his teaching efforts and the impact on students changed his perspective.

Like Travis, I also found my calling as an instructor after serving as a Marine Corps rifleman in Iraq and Afghanistan. Initially reluctant to become a combat instructor, I discovered a deep fulfillment in helping others come home safe. For both of us, making others safer and smarter with their firearms has become our mission.

The Importance of Quality Instruction

In today’s information age, it’s easy to find tutorials and videos online. However, as Travis and I agree, real learning happens with a good instructor. The hands-on experience, spot corrections, and tailored instruction are irreplaceable. Online resources can provide information, but true proficiency and safety come from professional training.

Travis emphasized the significance of seeing students walk away with tangible skills and knowledge. It’s a rewarding experience to witness the transformation and confidence that proper instruction can bring.

Final Thoughts

Meeting Travis Kennedy at CANCON 2024 was a reminder of the critical role quality instruction plays in the firearms community. Whether you’re a seasoned shooter or a newcomer, investing in professional training is essential for safety and effectiveness.
